The 'First Tablet for Women'
Finding difficulty using that iPad or Kindle? Don't worry, ladies. There's finally an easy-to-use tablet just for us.
It's called the ePad Femme, and the Middle East–based Eurostar Group, who developed the product, are describing it as the "world's first tablet made exclusively for women." It's already going over about as well as the Bic "Cristal for Her" Ball Pen on Amazon.
The eight-inch tablet comes preloaded with a pink background and a number of apps (so we don't have to stress over the difficulty of doing it ourselves) that revolve around yoga, grocery shopping, weight loss, and cooking. If a 5-year-old can figure it out, we probably can too, right?
It's also Wi-Fi-accessible, runs on Android 4.0, and has 16GB of internal storage. But if we can't download our own apps, we certainly don't need to know what those numbers mean for the tablet or what we're able to do with an SD card slot.
The ePad Femme was first announced in October, but it was touted as a Valentine's Day gift idea.
"The Tablet comes preloaded with applications so you can just turn it on and log in to cooking recipes or yoga," Mani Nair, Associate Vice President for Marketing at Eurostar Group, told the Jerusalem Post. "It makes a perfect gadget for a woman who might find difficulties in terms of downloading these applications and it is a quick reference."
Nair insists that the ePad Femme isn't sexist and explained that Eurostar Group is focusing on pre-loaded applications for many of their products.
However, Eman Al Nafjan, a Saudi feminist blogger, feels that this is just another way to give women information targeted at pleasing their husbands. She explained that many women are tech-savvy, and in countries like Saudi Arabia, women spend a lot of time online since they are not allowed to drive or travel without a male relative.
"Whoever made this tablet doesn't understand us very well," Al Nafjan said. "We are home all the time and we are extremely tech-savvy."
The ePad Femme is going for about $190, and EUROSTAR had only sold about 7,000 units as of mid-February.
Whether people want to go with an ePad or another tablet, there are plenty of other non-gender-specific options available that are a lot less polarizing.
I'm sure we can figure it out on our own.

20 Advertising Networks to Monetize Your Mobile App
Mobile advertising is such a nightmare these years, with terribly low
revenue and click-through rates crippling both commercial companies and
indie developers.
However, more and more remarkable advertising networks are rising, offering a great variety of monetization models to help developers maximize the revenue of their mobile apps, and yet most of us only know about AdMob.
But you deserve a better advertising network, and that is the purpose we have here: to feature 20 advertising networks with
standard and creative app-vertising models, flexible monetization
features and detailed analytics to pump up your revenue strategically.
To make it easier, we provided a comparison list for you to check out the features of each network in a glance. But first, let’s take a look at what each network has in store for you.
Given the strong coding nature of Google, the SDK allows you to
choose from a wide range of ad formats for both mobile devices and
tablets, including standard banner ads, interstitial (full screen) ads,
interactive ads and exclusive custom search ads. Integration is far less
painful with AdMob, as the documentation is clean and complete with
recommendations for best practices.
However, tons of personal reports indicate that the eCPM or revenue on the AdMob is very low, and as usual, support is hard to reach. Apparently best integration does not mean maximum revenue, so you might want to try your luck with other reliable networks with dynamic monetization models such as CPI (Click Per Install).
The intelligence gathered from its many research probably makes Millennial Media a full-fledged self-service platform which not only offers publishing features, but advertising features that you could utilize to promote your apps.
You can create a client campaign that lets advertisers compete for
your inventory within the respective categories – date range, targeting,
pacing and pricing – and all transactions are reported inside its
systematic dashboard. Millennial Media is also the loyal supporter of Ad
Network Mediation that grants you the ability to display advertisement from other advertising networks, such as AdMob.
You can even allocate traffic across the networks by percentage, location, and ad revenue based on eCPM. The House Ads also helps you to cross-promote your lines of apps inside your own application. That said, it’s clear enough that Millennial Media is simply the best combination of advertisement and monetization for your app.
Adfonic also supports AdMob mediation to ensure your fill rate is
exploding, and your maximum revenue is guaranteed. Built with the mind
of supporting giant advertisers and publishers, Adfonic offers Ad
Serving API that lets you customize the type of ads you request and specific ways they will be returned, for example XML, JSON, URL encoded or raw HTML.
You can even manage multiple accounts through a single platform, and access all publishers’ data through real-time reporting API and analytics dashboard. Though the flexibility is great, it could translate into lots of technical difficulties and confusion that may lead to possible revenue loss. Sometimes, less is more. Implement only what is necessary.
Chartboost is the solution for game developers, as it’s a platform that’s dedicated to advertise gaming ads, with up-to-par integration and analytics technology.
Chartboost offers lots of creative solutions that are bent on heavy
promotion and they are all done in a professional sense. They also
optimize your eCPM while advertisers increase their bids to pump out the
revenue number you will really like to see. You only need 5 lines of
codes to make Chartboost start working for you.
The ads are mostly about downloading another new game, so it meets the interest of the audiences who are already playing games, and always seeking for the next fun factor.
That’s what Tapjoy is doing: offering the gamers the chance to earn virtual currency by performing real-world action. The model is called incentivized download.
You give gamers the incentive (usually in virtual currency) to choose
or download apps. In place, they can reap virtual rewards and premium
content on 20,000+ games supported by Tapjoy in 1 billion network
devices. Over 77 million monthly active users are on Tapjoy, so common
issues like fill rate does not exist here.
What is an issue is that Apple is certainly not happy with the model, since the network has raised massive concerns about the gaming of the App store’s download chart. Apple has been banning this practice for all iOS apps, but Tapjoy gets around the rules by re-launching the system as a web application, which Apple cannot rule over.
If Apple hates it, you know that this is really an effective, even a bit dirty way to monetize and promote your game.
Besides, the company is doing great in integrating this fresh idea with its sleek API and SDK, just as professional as other advertising platforms!
On top of that, you achieve full control over the ads shown in your mobile, and with the eCPM control feature you are able to set minimum CPC/CPM floor limits at the price you desired.
The SDK helps you to display banner and text link from its CPA campaign, and you can also go for the advertiser route with CPI campaign, if you’re looking for some breakthrough in your download traffic!
It’s not just about ad format, MoPub wants to drive more revenue, therefore they debuted MoPub Marketplace that allows bidders to quote prices for your ad impressions the moment they’re available, and take advantage of data to optimize their bids in real time. This results in precise ad targeting that drives even better revenue for both parties.
Be sure to register a website for your app though, since they do not accept free email accounts, such as Gmail.
The network also straightened up your integration mess by introducing SDK that supports game engine, including Unity and Corona.

To make it easier, we provided a comparison list for you to check out the features of each network in a glance. But first, let’s take a look at what each network has in store for you.
Our Favorite Picks
AdMob
Being the child of the behemoth Google, AdMob should be the first advertising network for app developers to consider for monetization. What makes it a worthy platform here is probably not its brand, but its integration system a.k.a SDK (Software Development Kit) that helps you connect across famous platforms such as iOS, Android and the rising Windows Phone.
Millennial Media
As the first mobile advertising network that furthered itself to an Initial Public Offering (IPO), Millennial Media clearly knows how to do business, and offers lots of grand deals for developers ranging from top mobile gaming companies to indie teams. The intelligence gathered from its many research probably makes Millennial Media a full-fledged self-service platform which not only offers publishing features, but advertising features that you could utilize to promote your apps.
You can even allocate traffic across the networks by percentage, location, and ad revenue based on eCPM. The House Ads also helps you to cross-promote your lines of apps inside your own application. That said, it’s clear enough that Millennial Media is simply the best combination of advertisement and monetization for your app.
Adfonic
Adfonic cares not only about integration, it cares for the performance of your advertisement, with the promise of 95% average fill rates on both iOS and Android, and even up to 10x higher eCPMs with rich media advertisement. To achieve this, they are working directly with international agencies and brands such as Samsung, ESPN, BBS and Amazon Kindle to display their giant campaigns in your mobile app.You can even manage multiple accounts through a single platform, and access all publishers’ data through real-time reporting API and analytics dashboard. Though the flexibility is great, it could translate into lots of technical difficulties and confusion that may lead to possible revenue loss. Sometimes, less is more. Implement only what is necessary.
Chartboost
Standard mobile advertising networks are good, but when it comes to displaying ads on your game titles, they become hugely irrelevant due to the fact that the standard networks are targeting mass audiences with great variety of interests.Chartboost is the solution for game developers, as it’s a platform that’s dedicated to advertise gaming ads, with up-to-par integration and analytics technology.
The ads are mostly about downloading another new game, so it meets the interest of the audiences who are already playing games, and always seeking for the next fun factor.
Tapjoy
In-App Purchasing has been a hot debate topic lately, with most mobile gamers arguing that they don’t want to pay repeatedly just to complete a game. But how about doing something to earn the in-game coins, such as downloading another free game? That’s what Tapjoy is doing: offering the gamers the chance to earn virtual currency by performing real-world action. The model is called incentivized download.

How to send ebooks and documents to Kindle or Kindle mobile app WIRELESSLY
So you have some ebooks or documents on hard drive, but how to
transfer these to your Kindle or your iPad Kindle app or other device?
Typically, you would need to attach the device to the PC via a USB
cable, but wouldn’t be easier to simply to send them wirelessly?
This posting will show three ways to do it
(1) from the explorer context menu, by right clicking on the documents you want to send, and
(2) by emailing your documents. We guarantee: you don’t have to install or use a gigantic piece of software like iTunes or even Calibre to do it.
Even if you don’t have a Kindle, you should install the Kindle app on your Android or iOS device, as it is one of the best FREE ebook reading apps, and possibly the best free PDF reader on both platforms.

Supported file types: a quick reminder of Kindle supported filetypes; MS Word (DOC, DOCX, RTF), Ebook Formats (MOBI, AZW, PDF), Image Formats (JPG, PNG, BMP, GIF), and HTML (HTML, HTM).
Note: we presuppose that your device and PC are both connected to the internet. If not, you will need a wired connection.

Next you will be prompted to select the Kindle you want to send to. If there are multiple Kindles or Kindle apps associated with your account, you can select the ones you want to send to (screenshot below). The files have to be Kindle-compatible ebooks and documents such as MOBI or PDF.

But you will need to do three things (1) know the email address to send to (2) add the email you send from to your approved list in your Amazon account, and (3) use ‘convert’ as your email ‘subject’.

- Have a Mac? The Mac version does pretty much the same thing, via drag and drop. Get it here.
2. Sending via email
You can email your books to Amazon as attachments, and they will send them to your Kindle. They will even convert a range of formats to Kindle-friendly MOBI if you send an unsupported filetype. But you will need to do three things (1) know the email address to send to (2) add the email you send from to your approved list in your Amazon account, and (3) use ‘convert’ as your email ‘subject’.
- Go to the ‘Manage your Devices’ page on Amazon (you will have to log into your account); then click on ‘Personal Document settings in the sidebar)
- To find the email address to send to: depends on which device you want to send to, if you have multiple devices. Click into ‘Personal Document Settings’ link pictured above. You will see ‘Send to Kindle E-Mail Settings’ in the middle of the page. Note the email address for the correct device.
- Next, scroll down to ‘Approved Personal Document E-mail list’. If the email you want to send from is there, you’re done; all you have to do is go to your email client to send that email.
- If the email you want to send to is NOT on the approved email list, then click ‘Add a new approved e-mail address link’ in the bottom. In the prompt that appears, type in the new email address. You can enter the whole email (e.g. name@domain.com) to approve it, or enter the domain to approve all email addresses coming from that domain (e.g. @freewaregenius.com).
- Finally, open your email client. Add the ebooks and documents you want as attachments, use ‘Convert’ as your subject, and send them off to the email address you found above. Your documents will be delivered shortly if your Kindle or device is connected to the internet.

Educators Embrace Dell Latitude 10.1 Tablet for Classroom Education
Dell’s Latitude 10.1 tablet is gaining popularity with
educational usage around the U.S., with four public schools deploying
Dell’s 10 inch tablet in lieu of Apple’s iPad for tablet based
education. The Latitude is one of the many Windows 8 tablets out there,
and this adoption could help users warm up to the fledgling OS.
According to Dell, the four school districts who have embraced the Latitude 10 are Fargo Public Schools in North Dakota, Southern Illinois University, Spartanburg School District 3 in South Carolina and Westwood Independent Schools in Texas. Fargo Public Schools disclosed in a press release that they chose Dell because students could “produce information as easily as they can consume it”, and Southern Illinois University chose the Latitude to help reduce textbook costs.
Many school districts across the U.S. have embraced tablets in their classrooms, with 53% deploying tablets. One of the biggest challenges for the school districts using tablets is integrating the hardware with the school’s existing IT infrastructure, which is reportedly easier with the Latitude than Apple’s iPad. In fact, a research report from Principled Technologies found that Dell’s Latitude 10.1 essentials tablet requires 52% less time to manage, and is 99% faster when dealing with updates than Apple’s iPad. Password management , configuring device access and developing user policies are also easier with Dell’s Windows 8 tablet.
This is good news for Dell, who is hoping to go publicly owned again. A dominant player in the PC market, the adoption of Dell’s Windows 8 tablet could help the company garner increased profits from the tablet market, and stay afloat in the PC market.
