LAS VEGAS — When is a tablet not a tablet? When it's a mobile monitor. Lenovo unveiled at CES Sunday a portable monitor with 10-finger touch ability, optimized for Windows 8.

The ThinkVision LT1423p Mobile Touch Monitor is meant to be a companion to Windows 8 users on the go, giving them extra screen space — with touch — for a remote setup. Keep in mind, however, that Windows 8's new home-screen UI (formerly called "Metro") doesn't support multiple screens, so the monitor might be best used as a companion for non-touch notebooks.

Lenovo offers both wired ($349) and wireless ($449) versions of the ThinkVision, which measures 13.3 inches diagonal, and has a resolution of 1,600 x 900. It's an IPS (in-plane switching) LCD panel that's protected by Gorilla Glass, and is said to have a viewing angle that's "incredibly wide." Yes, it includes a stand.

The monitor also comes with a stylus — a wise choice for a monitor that may often be used to display the "classic" Windows desktop, which tends to need more precision than a finger is capable of. Lenovo plans to launch it in the spring.
